
KOTA SAMARAHAN - 5 May: A total of 101 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) school leavers from the B40 group were excited to experience valuable experiences with life on campus through the Get Ready for University Programme or Gear-UP 2024, a collaboration between UNIMAS and MARA. The programme were for three days from 3-5 May 2024 and was organised by Pejabat Pendaftar, Pusat Khidmat Pelajar (PKP) and Kolej Cempaka.
The ceremony was officiated by MARA Board of Director, Puan Siti Ajar Binti Yasin at the closing ceremony at PeTARY Auditorium, UNIMAS. Associate Professor Dr Faisal Ali Bin Anwar Ali Khan, representing UNIMAS Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) was present and in his welcoming speech, said that this programme was aimed to expose the 101 participants to the university environment before they set foot in a university. The selected participants are SPM leavers from B40 group waiting for their university admission offer and coming from throughout Sarawak.
A total of nine modules were provided to participants covering thinking methods, self-confidence, direction, public speaking, communication ethics and others. One of the module that was loved and liked by the participants was the Scavenger Hunt where participants were asked several questions and they need to find the ‘treasures’ at the faculties, residential colleges and PeTARY and was helped by their mentors comprises of the Cempaka College Student Representatives Council.

In addition, participants were brought to see some of the university’s facilities as well as having a hands-on experience on the facilities provided by UNIMAS.
It is hoped that all participants have gained invaluable knowledge and experience from the programme. Thank you to all PTjs involved: Pejabat Pendaftar, PKP, Kolej Cempaka, BPSM, PPPU, BPPs, AT2HB, FPBK and FPSK.
